Advance work on 31 intersections completed

To prepare local roadways for handling additional traffic during the Route 309 reconstruction project, PennDOT has improved 32 intersections or roadway sections on key thoroughfares, including Bethlehem Pike, Limekiln Pike and Church Road.

Work wrapped up in 2002 on two separate contracts valued at approximately $5 million. They included major or minor widening, installation of dedicated left or right turn lanes, drainage upgrades, new traffic signals and signal coordination.

In addition to intersection upgrades, PennDOT focused its repaving program over the last several years on highways destined to carry more traffic during Route 309 construction. Church Road, Bethlehem Pike, Tennis Avenue, Stenton Avenue and Easton Road were among them.

Improvements were made at:

Bethlehem Pike and... Church Road and... Limekiln Pike and... Susquehanna Road and...

Paper Mill Road will also be restriped to add a center left turn lane between Stenton Avenue and Cheltenham Avenue.
